We did page layouts this week so thought it was appropriate to blog a layout. This is a 4 page spread. I like how all the color are repeating thought out the different pages as well as lines that flow through, they really keep your eye successfully moving through all of them.

I thought this business card was cool. It's not really type related, yet I still thought it was good design, it caught my eye right away. At first I thought it was a hair comb, like for a hair dressers business card then I realized it was a mic for a radio presenter! I guess the idea could work the same but as a comb, there's an idea!

I thought this poster was cool. I like the way they integrated doodled title to there songs throughout the poster. I also like when posters look hand-draw I feel like it just give it a more authentic look, like all the cool music poster done in the 60's-80's.

I chose a magazine cover this week because this will be Project 3! I have always liked magazine covers, which is surprising since I usually like clean design and magazine covers always seem so chaotic. Yet, the logo in this is clean I guess, I believe the typeface is Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed.. It is used in the exact same way and usually whom ever is on the cover's head is usually in the same exact place, cover the same letter on ever issue, so this unifies it.

I thought this set was cool. It's kind of a mix between project 2 and project 3 cause they have business cards but there's also an event similar to the buzz cover well be doing next. I really like the mix of colors as well as the real cartoon and pop culture feel they have.

I found this a while ago, and though it was really neat. Since with this project we are doing letters heads, envelopes and business cards, I thought I would show that their are tons of cool business cards out there. They no longer have to be boring.

Our next project is type logos, so I thought this was appropriate. I really like the energy the logo gives off it kinda has a mysterious feel to it. I'm not sure what type face this is, I looked through a lot but couldn't find one that match exactly. I also like the bold color choice.

I really enjoy all poster whether its movie, band, or advertisment. What attracted me to this one was the bold contrast between the colors. First it was the red splattered circle that caught my eye as the focal point, then it was the Helvetica typeface. Helvetica is frequently used everywhere, so I've come to start recognizing it easily. In the poster I also liked the vertical arrangement of the text and it reading from the left to the right side of the poster kinda gives you a feeling that the movie is going to be a bit unpredictable and chaotic.

When looking for different idea's for this poster I came across of interesting one's, yet I think Avant Garde was my favorite. They have a wide variety of advertisments, movie posters, and band fliers. I thought the relationship with the image and the font was interesting. At first it was the image that caught my eye then I read the slogan and thought it was quite humorous.

Proj1 Copywriting

ITC Bookman was designed in 1975 by Edward Benguiat. He was born Ephram Edward Benguiat in 1927, in Brooklyn, New York. At a young age he had a promising career as a jazz percussionist. After serving in the Air Corp, he realized that he didn’t want to still be playing bar mitzvah’s as an old man, so he used his GI money to enroll in college, studying to be an illustrator. Now a profound typeface designer he has over 600 typeface to his credit including ITC Tiffany, ITC Panache and ITC Benguiat.
ITC Bookman was designed for International Typeface Corporation (ITC). Benguiat designed a full family of four weight as well as complementary cursive designs. He also drew a suite of swash and alternate characters for each of the members of the family. This version was created to add a large x-height and moderate stroke contrast to improve legibility.

I thought I would find a poster that used Bookman since that is my typeface for project 1. In this poster it contains various versions of Bookman including Bookman Std which contains swash and alternative glyphs. What attracted me to this piece was the color choices make it quite playful and creates a lot of energy. I also liked how they chose to use various versions, as well as different weights and sizes.
